Quick Look – Speck CandyShell View for iPhone 4/4S

As tough as they come.

The Speck CandyShell View is an interesting example of a thoughtfully designed case. It looks tough on the outside, but has a soft center. Well, perhaps soft isn’t the right word here; more protective and comfortable perhaps.

The CandyShell View basically has two layers of casing. On the outside we have a hard plastic resin with a matte black finish. The surface is very smooth so you can easily slide your iPhone 4/4S in and out of your pockets, with just about enough grip to not slide from your hands.

Inside there’s a rubber layer that will perfectly fit your iPhone 4/4S. Getting your phone in is going to be a bit of challenge as the CandyShell View is completely form-fitting, and you have to literally shove an iPhone 4/4S inside. Once in, you’ll see that the rubber extends out towards the fascia, providing better protection, in my opinion, than hard plastic.

You’ll also notice that each of the four corners also has rubber filling out for better impact resistance in the case of a fall.

Looking at the camera or 3.5mm jack input you’ll also notice that the overall depth of the CandyShell View is quiet thick; approximately 4mm in some places.  This obviously means some serious protection for your iPhone 4/4S, but there’s a flip side to all this. Even at the base, the CandyShell View is so thick that it will be pretty much impossible to use any dock adapter as it just won’t reach the charging port. The only thing you’ll be able to use is a direct Apple universal connector (original charging cable that comes with the iPhone).

If you don’t use docks, then this is obviously not an issue. In fact, outside of this thickness there really isn’t anything bad about the CandyShell View. It even comes with a retractable kickstand that you can easily pull out from the back and lock it in place so that it can stand in landscape or portrait mode at a slight angle.

So if you’re in need of some serious protection for your iPhone 4/4S, don’t use a dock and want a stand for watching videos or VOIP, the Speck CandyShell View is definitely worth checking out for AED 140.
