Google debuts streaming eyewear prototype

Great concept but look both ways before crossing the street.


Google finally admitted today that the company was testing a prototype of eyewear that would stream data directly to the user as they walked about. Items such as a messages, locations, weather etc would all be displayed to the user on the fly, and can be responded to using voice commands.

While it is certainly an exciting bit of tech, it raises the question of just how big a distraction such a device is going to be in real life. People are already poring over their phones, talking to themselves with Bluetooth headsets, and tweeting while driving. This device seems to bring all of these things together into an information overload that will constantly be pinging information to the user.
