Who do you think will win?
Remember Yahoo? The search engine of the 90s? Where everyone desperately scrambled to get a yahoo email address which is now *so* 1997?
Well, they’re back in the spotlight and this time they’re going after…Facebook. Yahoo claims that the social network giant infringes 10 of the search engine’s patents, and that Facebook license the patents before it finalizes plans to go public.
Facebook meanwhile seems quite unimpressed, citing ‘disappointment’ that Yahoo would try and bring this up given the ‘substantial benefits’ that the search engine received through its association with Facebook.
Yahoo has been reduced to a mere memory, with internal turmoil swinging the company in different directions, paving the way for the likes of Google and Microsoft’s Bing to snatch up whatever precious market share it still holds.
While Yahoo in its years of operations has filed plenty of patents, it’s unsure what they’re actually looking to get out of this case with Facebook. Sure, they may get an ounce of fame in the process, but how do you resurrect something that’s heading downhill anyway?
