One day after launch Microsoft hits a milestone.

Barely a day after it’s launch, Microsoft have announced that the Windows 8 Consumer Preview has been downloaded over 1 million times.

The software giant tweeted yesterday about the milestone, which was instantly picked up by its faithful followers and retweeted around the world.

Microsoft have made some serious changes with Windows 8, both in the underlying code as well as in the user interface, particularly the introduction of the Metro-style interface that we first saw on Windows Phone.

While we’re still running through our own copy of the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, our initial thoughts are that the OS certainly has made huge jumps from Windows 7 – the speed at which apps launch and the ease of the interface certainly make the OS a lot more accessible to users, although getting used to the Metro interface make take a bit of learning (can anyone tweet us how to shut it down?).
