A new heavyweight weights in.

Sony Mobile Communications, formerly Sony Ericsson, today launched the Xperia S smartphone in the region. The device made its debut at CES 2012, and now consumers in the Middle East can get their hands on this expertly designed phone that packs plenty of features and Sony’s love for all things HD.

Rüdiger Odenbach, Vice President, Sony Mobile Communications, Middle East and Africa, said: “Xperia S is the first device to be launched by Sony Mobile Communications, and we are confident that it will be very well received. We’re delighted by the response since the initial announcement at CES and more recently at MWC that drew fantastic reviews not only for the smartphone but also our new smart accessories including the Smart Watch, which was singled out during CES.”

The Xperia S features technologies from Sony’s various segments such as a HD Bravia display, Walkman audio, and in the future Playstation gaming. Packed with a 12 megapixel camera and 1.5GHz dual-core processor, the phone has some interesting features such as the ability to wirelessly stream media to wi-fi enabled TVs, programmable NFC tags, and a special finishing on the back that makes it dirt and smudge resistant.

We caught up with Mansoor Ahmed, Product Marketing Manager to give us a brief demo of the phone – check out the video below to see if the Xperia S can truly win you over.
