“I’m facing a very interesting situation”
Kim Dotcom, owner of infamous file sharing site Megaupload.com has given his first TV interview since being charged with copyright infringement and money laundering. In an exclusive interview to TV show ‘Campbell Live’, Dotcom says that the entire fiasco has been a nightmare for him and his family, and especially on his wife who is pregnant with twins.
While Campbell asked direct questions regarding the motives behind Megaupload and why the site did not stop illegal files from being shared, Dotcom remained adamant that it was not the site’s policy to go into user accounts and police what was being shared. He believed that users fully agreed to the site’s terms and conditions which clearly states that the site is not to be used for illegal file sharing.
Regardless, for a site that ran through 1.5 terabytes of bandwidth, the future still look cloudy for Dotcom. He calls out other websites such as Rapidshare, Filesonic, and even giants such as Microsoft and Google, claiming that their cloud storage systems can be used for the same kind of copyright activity. Whether or not Dotcom is merely designed to be an example to other site owners or not, it’s clear that the internet millionaire has no where to go since the company’s assets were frozen and his bail appealed.
