Try and outrun this thing if you dare.
For any movie that features robots turning against humans or enslaving us, people always remark “That would never happen – who’d be dumb enough to build a robot that powerful?”
Well it looks like we just can’t get enough of our fascination with automation (see what I did there?) as the wonderful folks over at DARPA have just released a rather terrifying video of what they dub as the ‘Cheetah’. DARPA’s previous creation the ‘AlphaDog’ was a gigantic unit that could travel over different kinds of terrain, pick itself up if it toppled over, and give you nightmares for life.
The newest robot Cheetah set a new record as the fastest legged robot, clocking in a speed of 18mph. Designers achieved this feat by mimicking the robot’s real-life counterpart, and performs some amazing feats such as flexing and unflexing its ‘spine’ to lengthen its stride.
While DARPA hasn’t given exact details on what the Cheetah will be used form, it’s indicated that it can have several military applications.
Because there’s nothing more terrifying than a swarm of Cheetahs ambushing your enemies – video below:
