It’s time to upgrade.

Good: High performance for price, easy overclock, sufficiently quiet
Bad: Not worthy update for HD 6900 owners
Price: AED 1,300

Dirt 3

Metro 2033

Conclusion

The AMD HD 7870 is one hell of a card given that encroaches on the sub $400 territory of the HD 7950 and GTX 580 with relatively modest overclocking. It remained cool and fairly quiet throughout our testing compared to the other cards. The best part is, of course, that even without the overclock, it still managed to dance around cards that are literally $100 more expensive then it. Obviously the performance in Arkham City benefits greatly from the bandwidth provided by the extra processors on the GTX 580 and HD 7970. It’s a matter of optimization through drivers and the game developers themselves at the end of the day.

So is the HD 7870 a worth upgrade from the HD 5870? Most certainly yes, but for those with the HD 6970s, the HD 7870 doesn’t yet provide a compelling argument given the price of both cards being the same right now.

Good catch, it is indeed. Also, it’s specified on the testbed sheet.
