Kinect wants to do your groceries

Put those donuts back. NOW.

In a swift move of ultimate geekery, Kinect has once again perked our interest with a Kinect-enabled shopping cart. No this doesn’t mean that you get to play Dance Central 2 while shopping at Carrefour.

The cart which was previously demoed at Microsoft’s Redmond campus uses a Kinect sensor and scanner to automatically track what items you place into your cart, and checks them off your shopping list. And if you put in the incorrect item, the shopping cart will prompt you to replace it with something else.

While the cart does follow you around as you shop, the practicality of this is questionable simply because you’ll have multiple people in the supermarket all screaming commands at their shopping cart. Plus when your kid sneaks in that candy bar they get to say “It wasn’t me mom – the cart told me to do it!”
