During CES this year, RIM showed off their latest BlackBerry OS 7.1, but now the latest OS is being rolled over all around the world. From today onwards, carriers worldwide will be getting the updates for the rest of this week.

The latest BB OS7.1 brings some pretty nifty features with it. One of them is the ability to create a private hotspot sharing your 3G connection with up to 5 devices over WiFi. Another addition is Near Field Communications (NFC) data sharing.

The BlackBerry 7.1 OS incorporates a new feature called BlackBerry Tag that can change the way BlackBerry users share information and content,” the company said. “By simply tapping their NFC enabled BlackBerry(R) smartphone against another NFC enabled BlackBerry smartphone, users can make sharing easier than ever. They can instantly invite a friend to BBM, exchange contact information, documents, URLs, photos and other multimedia content, and they can also pair their BlackBerry smartphone with an NFC enabled Bluetooth device.”

Finally, a little surprise for the latest BlackBerry Curve 9360  and 9380 owners who will see the added functionality of an FM radio now available. Both these handsets have FM radio built-in already, so OS 7.1 is just activating a basic function.

Etisalat and Du customers should expect the OS 7.1 update any day now.
