Breaks previous year record.

Samsung reported yesterday that it has sold more than 300 million mobile handsets in 2011, breaking it’s own record of 280 million during the same period last year. Even better, the figures are from the sales recorded by the end of November, which means that the number could shoot up even higher by the end of this year.

“We look forward to extending this success going into 2012,” said JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.

The main contributors to the awesome figure were, of course, Samsung’s two major releases – Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S II. The latter in particular, has sold more than 10 million units since it’s launch in April.

Samsung is now currently preparing for its Android 4-powered Galaxy Nexus. The handset went on sale in some parts of Europe last month, however the company has yet to announce international launch plans.
