Is February 24th the day?
According to Focus Taiwan newspaper, Apple has got all of its manufacturers to work extra hard and through their holidays in order to prepare iPad 3 for launch on February 24th – on Steve Jobs’ birthday.
Here’s an excerpt from the newspaper (thanks 9to5mac):
“After the iPhone 4S successfully took the tech market by storm, the iPad3 is widely expected to be Apple’s first hit product to be released next year. Industry sources said the first shipment of the iPad3 could exceed 4 million units. Because it is a new gadget, it is taking time for makers in the supply chain to raise their yield rates. The sources said all OEM and ODM makers have exercised great caution in ensuring the smooth operations of their production lines.”
Apparently, Foxconn, Apple’s long-time preferred manufacturer, has told all of its employees to take only 5 days off during the Lunar New Year holidays. Other manufacturers like Simplo Technology (battery), Genius Electronic Optical (optical lens) and Amer International Group (connector) have all asked their employees to shorten their off-time, as well.
Apple has never been an emotional company, but as 9to5mac correctly points out, it won’t be the first time they pull this off. Safari 4 Beta in 2009, and Thunderbolt Mac Book earlier this year were launched on the late co-founder’s birthday. Of course, values were a bit different then.
