Unfortunately, that’s a fake.

Well, add this to your ‘Things I have learnt from the Internet’ book – celebrities don’t offer expensive gifts to million of its followers on twitter in the “spirit of the holidays”. There is always a hacker lurking around behind that.

As TechCrunch reports, eccentric music artist Lady Gaga’s twitter account was hacked yesterday, with the hacker promising to offer all her 17 million followers free iPad 2′s as part of the festivities. That’s nearly 8 billion dollars if we count $499 as the base price. Apple doesn’t even do bulk discounts.

Similarly, Canadian singer Nelly Furtado’s twitter account was hacked as well, only this time offering free Macbooks.

Users who clicked on the totally suspicious looking links were asked to divulge personal details, signup for special offers, and then pass the totally obvious spam to friends and family.
