CEO Eric Schmidt teases so.

In a recent interview with the Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sea, Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt hinted at the possibility of a new tablet that maybe Nexus branded.

Talking about the late Apple co-founder, Eric said that, “Steve Jobs was the Michelangelo of our time. A friend of mine and a unique character, able to combine creativity and visionary genius with an extraordinary engineering ability.” He further went on to talk about how Steve realized the potential of tablet computers outside of organizations, and creating a product with mass market appeal.

Despite the goodwill between these two, the companies still compete. “In the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality,” said Eric. However, he made no further mention of whether this will be a Nexus tablet, or a 3rd party tablet that Google will push as much as the Motorola XOOM earlier this year when it became the first tablet to come with Android Honeycomb.

This new tablet is sure to come with the recently released Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS, but it remains to be seen what’s so amazing about it, apart from having the new OS, that Google will be marketing it so hard.
