Google Ending Support For Gmail Blackberry App

Focusing on the mobile browser version instead.

Conspiracy theorists will chalk this up to another company jumping ship on Blackberry, but I disagree. Nevertheless, Google announced today that they are ending support for the native Gmail application for the Blackberry platform

The idea is that they’re shifting the focus from that application to building a great mobile browser interface for their Gmail application. Users that already have it will still be able to use it, just not have any support from Google and it won’t be available from download after November 22.

I don’t think this is bad news really, considering how robust the mobile browser interface of Gmail has become on Blackberry. I was a previous user of the application, but found myself increasingly turning towards using the browser since it almost feels like an application in itself both in terms of interface and the lightning fast speed.
