The device could be priced close to $200.
According to a report from AllthingsD, Amazon might be looking into developing its own Kindle-based smartphone device. The US-based online retailer recently released its first tablet-PC, the Kindle Fire, which opened to mixed reviews at best.
The speculation comes from a note released by Citigroup’s research department which says, “we believe an Amazon Smartphone will be launched in 4Q12.”
According to the report, the smartphone could cost between $150 to $170 to make, with Amazon selling close to, or even for a loss, to the production cost. “If Amazon is actually willing to lose some money on the device, the price gap could be even bigger,” the note added.
