Or they just don’t like surveys.
Earlier this year, The Pirate Bay joined forces with the Cybernorms research group at Lund University in Sweden to take a survey of downloading habits of file sharers around the world. The first few details have emerged at Torrent Freak, with the full results to be revealed in November. An incredible 75,000 people filled up the survey, responding to various questions on using torrents.
One of the biggest stat bomb was that out of the 75k people who were surveyed, only 5% were female. This could also mean that women don’t like to fill up surveys, or rather they especially don’t like to fill surveys of their pirating habits. Regardless, some trends were still discerned from the over 3700 female respondents.
Not in real life.
Both men and women download the same amount of movies and music files, although 60% of the male population downloads games, compared to females who’re a mere 25%. Of all the content being downloaded, movies dominate the scene with a whopping 80% download; music files come in with 40%.
As the rest of this survey’s results become available, the data will be invaluable to the games, movie and music industry in identifying trends of who are the kind of people that are file sharing, and perhaps even why. We’ll keep you updated as more of this info is available.
