The game retailer wants to enter Android tablet market, especially for gaming.
GameStop, the biggest retailer of games has plans to target the mobile handheld gaming market and they just don’t want to do development or distribution of games; instead manufacture gaming tablets. GameStop had previously bought Impulse digital game distribution service. Then bought Kongregate, one of biggest flash games site who also have their own app and games collection on Android. Their next target is 2012 is an Android Tablet for gaming.
There is no denial that iOS has the biggest library of games and most of big titles are exclusive to it. But sadly for hardware developers no third party manufacturer can get a piece of that “Apple” pie. So, they all have to share the market of next biggest thing: Android.
The difference between standard Android tablets and GameStop gaming tablet will be that it will come with specialized controller to play the games with. Android has already opened usb interface for external hardware, which kind of makes this tablet nothing special as you can use any usb controller with an Android tablet anyway. Similarly if they promote it with exclusive games or cloud gaming, then same things would come to other Android tablets too in no time. So, what makes it so special? we just have to wait and see when more details come in.
