Auto Correct “Killed the launch of our Android app”

Locai nowhere to be found on Android Marketplace.

We’ve all heard and experienced horror stories of how the auto correct functionality of modern phones can twist our words unintentionally, resulting in funny, but sometimes scary consequences. One such incident happened with the developers of Locai, a social app that is nowhere to be found on the Android Marketplace.

The problem happens on Google’s end where the servers will auto correct ‘Locai’ to ‘Local’ without informing the end-user of the correction, displaying results of ‘local‘ instead. “Since everyone downloads apps by searching for them first this is a huge blow to us,” said Taylor Cavanah Locai’s founder to Tech Crunch.

The only way to actually search for Locai and get proper results is by adding quotation marks to the name or +locai. Until Google fixes this on their back-end, nothing much can be done about this as most users will never know what’s going wrong.

From auditing to editing, I now test and analyze the latest gadgets and games instead of the latest financial statements. Both jobs are equally intense and rewarding. When I'm not burning up hardware in the name of science, you'll find me nuking in DOTA 2 or engineering in TF2.
