Another name for cheap, I guess.
According to Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White, the folks at Cupertino (that’s Apple, in case you didn’t read the headline) are planning to release two separate version of the iPhone this year: an iPhone 5 and a “simplified” iPhone 4.
White cites a report from Sohu.com, which claims that Apple and China Telecom have come to an agreement to release two distinctly different iPhone models. The launch window is set for end of October, according to the site.
This ‘simplified’, or ‘cheap’ iPhone 4 has been in the rumor house for quite some time now, with an earlier report showing an iPhone 4 covered with plastic cover panels, instead of the gorillas, to cut corners. As such, White believes the new iPhone 4 model could be “a more economical version of iPhone to target a broader customer base in developing countries such as China, allowing for an expanded market opportunity.” He says the combo of a high-end and a low-end device could combine to create a long-term $68 billion opportunity through China Telecom alone.
One day Apple will have more cash reserves than the entire planet.
