Facebook launches new Messenger app

Another new feature to tackle Google+?

Facebook launched their new Messenger app yesterday on the Apple, Android and Blackberry App store. This new standalone app expands on the chatting functionality by allowing you to chat in groups, send messages to everyone on your friends list, share locations and even pictures.

The instant messaging feature on the phone can be seen as a direct result of trying to compete with the Google+ “Huddle” feature, but let’s not forget that Facebook purchased Beluga in March earlier this year. Some members of the development team from Beluga have worked on the Facebook Messenger app, so expect truly instant messaging on the go.

From auditing to editing, I now test and analyze the latest gadgets and games instead of the latest financial statements. Both jobs are equally intense and rewarding. When I'm not burning up hardware in the name of science, you'll find me nuking in DOTA 2 or engineering in TF2.
