Twitter official app update brings most requested features: Push notifications, Multiple accounts and Home screen widgets.

Twitter official client for Android has been updated to 2.1.0 which brings two very exciting features: Push notifications and multiple account support. Even though many people had already shifted to Twitter for Android, but I remained loyal to Tweetdeck and Seesmic apps. The main reason: Multiple accounts. If you have more than one twitter account then “Twitter for Android” was not an option. But now that Tweetdeck has merged with twitter team, so we can expect the official twitter app to be powered with same features too; and now you can both read and send tweets from multiple accounts using the new version.

Second important update comes as push notification of which iPhone users were very proud of. Previously the android app used to “pull” new tweets from the server after set intervals of time. But now tweets that mention you or are sent as direct messages will be “pushed” to your phone from server giving you instant notifications like SMS.

Moreover the app update comes with new home screen widgets of different sizes so you can read the latest tweet or mentions on the home screen too. Overall this marks a really worthwhile update; which makes it the recommended app for twitter users on Android.
