Latest patent application bring’s DSLR-esque shot’s to point-and-shoots

Professional looking shot’s from a puny point-and-shoot? well Samsung seems to think it all lies in the power of Depth-of-field and has developed a patent to add simulated depth-of-field to their lower end cameras as well as smartphone cameras.

The patent filing, mentioned on Engadget, details a technology where a dual camera setup would see one camera concentrate on taking full resolution pictures while a second camera would be used to calculate object distances. While the dual camera setup is reminiscent of 3D camera technology, this technology will see both cameras data merged into one image to create a “depth map” with simulated blur.
