Sony Cybershot TX55 takes slimmest camera crown

Sony has announced out a new compact camera and claims that CyberShot TX55 will be the thinnest compact digital camera in town when it arrives later this summer; but there’s a lot more to the seductive little snapper than its slight 12.2mm thickness. Top of the list of intriguing specs is the ability to grab full-resolution 12MP photos while simultaneously shooting HD video.

It comes equipped with 16.2MP Exmor sensor inside. With the camera’s Intelligent Sweep Panorama feature that’ll allow you to grab auto-stitched panoramas of up to 42.9MP. The CyberShot TX55 can also capture 3D photos and video clips if you’re so minded. You can view your handiwork on the 3.3in OLED touchscreen. Sony also promises that you can increase the 5x optical zoom to 10x with the By Pixel Super Resolution function. It claims that the feature can boost magnification without reducing pixel count.

The Sony CyberShot TX55 records 1080i AVCHD video at 60fps in video mode and there’s a 10fps burst mode for still images. There’s also a range of built-in filters including HDR painting, tilt-shift and toy camera modes along with colour and monochrome filters. The compact supports Sony’s 16GB Memory Sticks or 8GB SD cards.

Sony CyberShot TX55 will be released in September for approximately 1300 AED.

Google+ growth slowing down

Google+ entered with bang, no doubt. The social networking site, a direct competitor to the present juggernaut Facebook, got everyone (and their grandmother) curious, with the Internet witnessing once again the massive rush of threads with users asking (aka begging) for invites to get onto the site. The social site collected million of users within days, with Google saying that it has about 10 million users already.

However, according Experian Hitwise, Google+ has been slowing down in traffic, with users spending less and less time on the website. To put that in numbers: for the week ending July 23, Google+ had a total of 1.79 million visits. That’s a 3 percent down from the 1.86 million visits registered in the previous week. As for the avg. time spent on site, that took a slight hit as well, with a user spending a total of 5 mins and 15 seconds per visit, as compared to 5 mins and 50 seconds for the previous week.

Google declined to comment on Experian Hitwise’s numbers, only saying that the stats did not factor in traffic from mobile websites and of users who visit Google+ via another Google service like Gmail.

Rumor: First images of the iPhone Lite seeps out

We have been all reading about that iPhone for quite sometime now, haven’t we? You know, the one that will make Apple’s magical device more affordable to combat Android’s ridiculous rise? Yup, the ‘cheap’ iPhone, or as today’s report claims, the iPhone Lite.

A Vietnamese blog has leaked the first images of the so called iPhone Lite model, showing a pretty similar device to the iPhone 4 with a tiny little change – it’s got no glass. The front and back coverings are replaced with regular plastic held together by small plastic hinges. Now, judging from how a smudge is formed on the plastic, and how the light reflects from it, our first intuition is that it’s just a regular screen protector. Or that Apple is using really cheap plastic panels. I guess that’s how costs are cut, right?

Apple has yet to announced a iPhone Lite model, though we might hear something about them in the September conference if the rumors hold up.

“It is a clear style shell case that has differs from competitors with its customizable back. HornetTek includes a transparent iPhone 4 card that can be used to outline images to be cut and placed inside the back of the case creating a unique case design. I am surprised this is the first time I have seen this concept with any of the Apple portable devices. This is definitely something my nine-year-old daughter would love for her iPod Touch. ”
