3D can cause discomfort, headaches, eye aches (is there such a thing?) and, as I found out during watching Avatar, sleepiness. I knew that. You knew that. But now we have a study to give us satisfaction that what we knew was right.
University of California at Berkeley studied about 24 people while they were being tortured with 3D displays (our facts maybe wrong…). After a series of test (which were completely scientific and infallible, we are sure), they observed, that lo!, 3D caused them discomfort.
They gave a name to the discomfort, as well – ‘vergence-accomodation’. This means that the human eye ”must constantly adjust to both the distance of the physical screen and that of the 3D content.” This results in “visual discomfort, fatigue, and headaches”.
If you have been to any 3D movie viewing, you already know how 3D wrecks havoc to your system (if at all). I, for one, do not feel any discomfort whatsoever, however I do manage to dose off some times. What does 3D do to you?
