Show your Love for authors contribution, using the new button.

Wikipedia is powered by the people who spend their time and effort to add all the information in it. But one thing quite rampant on web is criticism more than appreciation for those efforts. That is what the stats of Wikipedia users indicate. Wikipedia guys did some research to find out that the reason why people don’t appreciate the wiki authors is that, they don’t have a proper or easier way to say do so. This is where the new “Love” button comes into play.

Stats show that people are more inclinied to critism than appreciation

You can consider the upcoming Love button as a Like button on Facebook, but instead of a simple notification to author that someone liked / loved his contribution, you will receive a custom card from them. Wikipedia will be having some default badges or even pictures of cats and beer to send to author as a symbol of love for author’s work.

Sample of Love customization screen, being used in testing phase

Wikipedia developers hope that this will keep the wiki-contributors happy when they get appreciated; and the encyclopedia which is hitting a static state now, will continue to grow in entries and updations to existing topics. The Love button is already operation on their test site and will soon be coming to main site once the testing is complete.
