I will mention though, that connecting to WiFi wasn’t exactly easy, with multiple tries on my Mac Book Pro. In the end, I actually ended up using Bluetooth more since the audio quality remained the same. The caveat is that if you move the Bluetooth connected device around too much, whether it was my iPhone 4 or MBP, the sound cut off for less than a second and then resume again. The RF remote control is very simple, again, signifying the simplicity and effectiveness of the Zikmu.

This review won’t be complete without mentioning the iPhone and iPod dock on the top of the right speaker. The dock obviously charges your device, and for the first time starting up the Zikmu, all I had to do was wire the two speakers, turn them on and plug in my iPhone 4. The two speakers automatically paired up using Bluetooth and beautiful music started flowing from the speakers. If all you want to do is hook up the Zikmu to your iPhones and iPods and Macs via Bluetooth, nothing comes close to Zikmu’s simplicity and effectiveness.

As for the sound itself, I must say that the NXT speaker design really did wonders in my room. All I had to do was set the speakers apart by roughly 10 meters, at a slightly diagonal angle so that sound bounces easily off the left and right walls, lay back on bed and enjoy the music as filled my entire room. The sound carried from the Zikmu feels like it’s occupying the space in the entire room; it doesn’t feel like it’s coming from on particular direction. Of course, vocals are always centered and forward, while specific stereo effects are heard from that side of the room, but the ambient sound filling the room was incredible. Immersive, is the right word here. The bass was ample, and the high notes were crystal clear. The vocals and mid-ranges also seemed pitch perfect, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say these will fulfill your audiophile needs. They do come close though.

So what the Parrot by Starck Zikmu represents is a stylish solution for your room bedroom or drawing room as they provide space filling, beautiful sound, without the hassle of wires. Connection is easy and very straightforward (except WiFi) and everything just simply works. The ability to seamlessly connect your smartphones and computer means that this is potentially the only speaker set you’ll need for your room, making the whole package we worth the price.
