The professional thin and light notebook.

Lenovo held the launch of their Thinkpad X1 at the Dubai Autodrome today. Positioned as an ultra-thin business laptop, the X1 isn’t as thin or light as the MacBook Air or the Samsung Series 9 but is impressive nevertheless at 17mm at 1.72kgs.

The X1 will be available in multiple configurations- from Core i3 to Core i7 Sandybridge CPUs and with single or multiple drives that can be a combination of your traditional hard drive or the new super-fast solid state drives. The 13.3″ display is made of gorilla glass making it sctrach proof and resistant to a minor fall. The bezel on the X1 is also covered by the screen making it Lenovo’s first Infiniti display.

Other things that are nice about the X1 include a backlit keyboard and button-less touchpad. Lenovo also mentioned that the battery of the X1 can be charged to 80% within half an hour making it easy to simply pick up and go. Last but certainly not the least, the X1 is equipped with Dolby Home Theater sound system- perfect for adding surround sound to your powerpoint presentations.

Lenovo hasn’t disclosed the price yet but says that it will make it competitive. Expect a full review soon but with the brief time I had to play with it, I found it’s build quality very impressive
