iWeb and MobileMe site hosting services to be cancelled

If Steve Jobs’ one word answer is to be believed.

iCloud took many of MobileMe’s features and services as it replaced the unpopular package at the WWDC. While services like Find My iPhone have made the jump, some of the other slightly popular services, such as iWeb and MobileMe’s web-hosting tools, will be cancelled, it seems.

A concerned user, worried about re-training for another web building service, fired off a cheeky email to Steve Jobs hoping to get a final confirmation on the matter. And so he did, albeit in the same Steve Jobs style we have all come to expect.

Dear Mr. Jobs,

Will I need to find an alternative website builder and someone to host my sites?

I have invested a lot of time and effort and the thought of re-training sucks more than mobileme ever did.

A: Yep.

If Jobs’ one word answer is any indication, then users of the iWeb and MobileMe’s web hosting services will have to find other alternatives soon.

How can Apple do this to their loyal customers?

I have just found out iWeb will go with Mobile me and it has sent me into a blind and furious panic.  I never write this way normally, but I have to unload my frustration somehow!   It is completely iniquitous that Apple thinks it can treat their customers so cynically.  Sell them the dream, let them get used to living it and then just snuff it out at will.  I am a freelance film maker who rejoiced at the realisation that I could create my own website using iWeb and Mobile Me.  If this service is lost, I shall have a significant part of my marketing and business infrastructure destroyed at a stroke.  I have been a loyal Apple-only, Mac-only customer for 23 years and have grown as the Mac has grown.  Is this the thanks I can expect from those nice people at Apple?  Seems so.  Thanks for nothing, Apple.
