Twitter to announce TweetDeck acquisition in the coming days.

A reliable source of TechCrunch has revealed that Twitter has acquired the very popular third party Twitter client, TweetDeck. The microblogging network is believed to have paid an amount in the range of 40 to 50 million dollars which includes both cash and stock.

This is not the first time that TweetDeck has been offered an acquisition money. Back in February, UberMedia attempted to purchase this innovative Twitter startup. All matters were decided until Twitter decided to intervene and made TweetDeck folks an offer that resulted in UberMedia not getting what they wanted.

The question that arises here is this – why is Twitter so interested in TweetDeck? Well, folks familiar with the matter see this as a defensive move from the microblogging founders in an attempt to stop UberMedia from getting a huge market share in the Twittersphere. UberMedia already has a large number of Twitter startups which includes UberTwitter, EchoFon and others.

What’s your take on this acquisition which will be made official in the coming day?
