Rumor: Amazon working on an “entire family” of Android devices

New rumor suggests online retailer plans to release a range of new tablets and smartphones by the Holiday season.

Amazon may soon jump into the crowded tablet and smartphone market, according to a source close to Android and Me.

The source claims that the online retailer is currently busy working over an “entire family” of Android-based devices, including tablets, smartphones, and maybe even a Google TV set-top-box. Most of the devices are planned to release this Holiday season, with Quanta and Samsung as its hardware partners.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has already gone on record to somewhat confirm the rumors, offering simply a “stay tuned” when asked about the planned hardware launches.

It won’t be surprising to see Amazon jumping aboard the mobile bandwagon. If it can marry Kindle’s usability, low power consumption and keep Android’s functionality in tact, competitors will soon have something big to worry about.
