Apart from the DPI switches under the scroll wheel, the entirety of Roccat Kone plus is customized through the drivers. The Kone Plus driver provides an exhaustive list of customization, all the way from in-depth sensor settings, to profile creation and macro recording to setting the colors and speed changes of each LED. I honestly haven’t seen a mouse driver that provides this much control and customizability options. Roccat really nailed the driver with this one. The best part is that while installing the new driver, the Kone Plus’ driver will automatically update the firmware as well.

While I have seen extensive DPI changes and LED settings in many a gaming mouse, what sets apart the Kone Plus from other mice is its ability to assign secondary functions to each of the buttons thanks to Easyshift[+]. Think of it as the Shift key on your keyboard, and you’ll grasp the idea behind Roccat’s Easyshift [+] button. Essentially you assign one of the Forward or Backwards button on the left side as the Easyshift [+] button, and every time you use Easyshift [+] in conjunction with any other button on the mouse, you’ll be performing a secondary function. These secondary functions can be assigned in the driver; coupled with the 5 onboard profiles, the Kone[+] gives you up to 22 buttons to play with on any game or software of your choice. Easyshift [+] really is an elegant alternative to having an unnecessarily huge amount of buttons on a mouse. My only regret here is that Roccat should have a dedicated button near the thumb rest that’s the Easyshift [+] button, instead of sacrificing one of the 12 buttons on the mouse.
The only other negative I can think of is that the scroll wheel on the Kone Plus feels tacky. Basically when I click the Scroll Wheel it feels as though it will go down further than it should, but of course it doesn’t; a far cry from all the other slick buttons on the Kone Plus.

To put it simply, the Roccat Kone Plus is the very definition of German engineering at its best. The Kone Plus is a precision engineered piece of equipment whose sole purpose is to destroy the competition by providing a superior user-experience with excellent performance and supreme comfort. The driver allows for extreme customization in how the mouse works and looks. If you’re looking for a high-end mouse for competitive gaming, the Roccat Kone [+] should definitely be at the top of your list.
