Microsoft close to buying the online telephony for about 7 to 8 billion dollars.

According to a rumor shared by Wall Street Journal, Microsoft is on the verge of buying Skype, a company which offers Internet based voice/video call service.

The Redmondians are willing to pay a hefty sum of 7 to 8 billion dollars to get hold of Skype. Sources close to the matter have revealed that even though the talks are in the final stages, the deal is not yet done and could fall apart.

If the deal comes through, Microsoft would benefit a lot from it as it will do a world of good to its brand name in the Internet world. This acquisition will be the biggest Microsoft has done in its long history of 36 years. Will it prove to be the most profitable one? Only time will tell.
