A shopping assistant to find the best deals around town. Husbands, beware.

Ever wished that whenever you would step inside a mall, you could pull up information on all the deals offered among the hundreds of stores and be done with your shopping because you knew where and exactly what to shop for? Well, there’s an app for that!

Brewed locally by Govind & Hassan, iShopaholic is just that perfect “shopping assistant” you need to quickly and neatly sort out all the information you would need. Currently only supported in the UAE and Bahrain, iShopaholic lists all the deals offered by stores inside the countless malls in an easy to search format. The app is also location aware, as it will let you know about deals that are close by. For example, if you are near to Mall of the Emirates, it will detect your location and present you with all the ongoing deals offered by stores inside the mall. The developers had said at GeekFest, where the app was first shown publically, that it would also list up deals offered by smaller shops, such as in Karama or Deira, although the feature is yet to be supported it seems. We could only find deals offered in malls around Dubai.

The app also works as a mall directory, with floor plans, location map, telephone number and website all feed into the system. It also allows you to ‘follow’ retailers, giving you push notifications about new deals and offers available at your selected retail stores. Your shopping findings can also be shared via Facebook or Twitter directly from the application.

iShopaholic feels like it is still under development. The UI, particularly, needs a lot of optimization, prominently being support for the Retina display. The app has tremendous potential and is one of a kind – it’s surprisingly that no one had thought of this before in this mall crazy country! Despite in its early stages of development, I, for one, will always carry the app on my iPhone whenever I go out for shopping in a mall. It has already tempted me with two really great offers.

And now suddenly my wallet doesn’t like the app anymore. Well, at least it’s free.
