EMS: BlackBerry PlayBook launch delayed in the UAE

June 25th is the new date citing circumstances beyond control.

The BlackBerry PlayBook has gotten a slight delay in the date it was supposed to be launched in the UAE. Initially, the tablet was expected on the 12th of June but the new date says 25th of June. The reasons cited in the email we received are “circumstances beyond EMS’ control” but take a look at the picture that was officially distributed with the Press Release. It shows the native calendar app on the PlayBook which leads us to believe that a firmware update with the included Email, Calendar and Contacts functionality might be the reason the tablet got delayed. If that is the case, then this is actually good news for PlayBook owners- your tablet is getting native PIM functionality within a month!

Press Release: EMS today announced they will be distributing the highly anticipated BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet from Research In Motion (RIM) through select retail outlets across the region from the 25th June.

The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet with built-in Wi-Fi® connectivity will be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models from leading retailers including Carrefour, Sharaf DG, Jumbo and Jacky’s. ‘PlayBook experience zones’ in these outlets will enable customers to experience the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and access a wide range of mobile applications and content from the recently launched BlackBerry App World™.

”We are very excited to be bringing the eagerly-awaited BlackBerry PlayBook to the UAE,” said Babar Khan, CEO of EMS. “After experiencing a successful launch in North America we look to continue this within our region, where smartphone penetration is very high. With features such as seamless integration with a BlackBerry smartphone, Docs To Go for document editing and HDMI output, we expect the BlackBerry PlayBook to become an essential tool for this region’s businesses.”

BlackBerry PlayBook is the world’s first professional-grade tablet. It features an ultra-portable design and delivers industry leading performance, uncompromised web browsing with support for Adobe® Flash® Player, true multitasking, HD multimedia, advanced security features, out-of-the-box enterprise support and a robust development environment.
