…and counting.

A bit after midnight Tuesday morning, Apple approved a number apps and marked a milestone in the number of applications now available on its famous App Store. At present, there are over 500,000 apps, an insane number by any measurement scale. Considering it’s humble start only 4 years back, when the app store was launched with just 500 apps, the growth is nothing short of staggering.

In order to celebrate the festive moment, at least for the these three companies – blog 148app, search company Chomp, and game developer Chillingo – have released a massive infographic depicting the timeline of Apple’s App Store, while throwing some interesting facts to munch on.

According to the chart, there are 85,000 unique developers that have their wares on sale at the App Store. Of all the apps, about 37% are available at no cost, with an avg. price of an app rounding upto $3.64. Also, games make up the majority of the apps available on iOS at 15%, followed by books at 14% and general entertainment apps at 11%.
