Overtakes Nintendo as the second largest buyer of accelerometers, gyroscopes and microphones.
With large number of iPhones, iPads, and iPods shipped worldwide each month, it’s no surprise has that Apple has managed to beat Nintendo as the second largest buyer of techno stuff like accelerometers, gyroscopes and microphones. The Cupertinos are now just $5 million away from toppling Samsung from its no. 1 throne.
The chief analyst at iSuppli, Jeremie Bouchaud, said, “Consumers in 2010 happily bought up Apple products including the iPhone 4, the iPad and iPod Touch. Much of the appeal of these products lies in their sophisticated user interfaces, which rely heavily on MEMS sensors, specifically accelerometers, gyroscopes and microphones. This caused Apple’s purchasing to boom in 2010.” Last year, Apple up’ed the purchase order by 116.7%, raising the doll out to $195 million. Gyroscope was added last year as part of iPhone 4′s hardware capabilities, and then to iPad.
$5 million now…come on Apple, you can do it.
