Anonymous draws first blood.

After warning Sony against a bevy of attacks, the popular Anonymous hacker group carried out their first plan of strike and had brought down and today. At the time of writing, the websites now operate normally, however a few hours back they timed-out for most users around the world.

According to PlaystationLifestyle, who has their eyes on the group’s IRC channel, a sub-group called OpSony were responsible for the attack. The sites were brought down by a DDoS attack – a distributed denial-of-service attack. On the IRC channel, the group had asked hackers to “crash all server of sony please”.

Other sites such as and are also targeted, according to a document detailing some plans of attack from OpSony.

Interestingly, the group have also released a 1-min video in which they echo the “hive’s” sentiments towards the issue and will continue the attacks until they are “completely satisfied with the outcome”.

Sony has yet to comment on the matter.
