Sony says that rumours of the power of the NGP are overblown and would probably ‘set fire to your pants’
Sony has finally put to bed all the rumours flying about that the NGP would be a powerhouse equaling that of the PS3. Probably not wanting the public to get their hopes up only to have it trashed at launch, Kotaku is reporting that in a Game Developers Conference talk, David Coombes, the platform research manager at sony, stated explicitly that the upcoming successor to the PSP would not come close to matching the graphics of the Playstation 3.
He is quoted as saying:
“Some people in the press have said, ‘Wow, this thing could be as powerful as a PS3, Well, it’s not going to run at 2GHz, because the battery would last five minutes…and it would probably set fire to your pants.”
That should put a stop to all the rumours pretty fast. The device is said to be halfway between the current PSP and the PS3- Not a bad place to be. Either way the NGP will have to compete with what seems to be a very strong competitor- The Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo’s device sold out online and consequently went to sell out all stock at launch.
