New rumors are suggesting that Microsoft is ready to stop production on its Zune media player.

According to a Bloomberg, a source ‘familiar with the situation’, has confirmed that Microsoft is ready to pull the plug on its Zune range of media players. Zune was introduced in 2006 but failed to pick up as Apple iPod continued to dominate sales.

Microsoft will now solely focus on the Zune software, which it has already got it on the Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7.

In a 2006 interview, Steve Ballmer had said ““We can beat them, but it’s not going to be easy.” Sure was.
