HP cites ‘uncanny similarities’ while RIM say’s such similarities are inevitable.
The similarities are uncanny and it seems they’ve been called out on it. WebOS elements have been featured in a number of different operating systems but none has so blatantly done it as the Blackberry’s Playbook OS. From the similar way they handle multiple running applications to the way you slide an application away to close it. But finally, HP seems to have spoken out about it calling them ‘uncanny similarities’. The Tech giant also inflicted quite the tech burn when they said that they will “keep innovating, we’ll keep honing and those guys hopefully will continue to see the value in it and keep following us by about a year.”
Engadget also notes that the folks at RIM responded by saying: “when you’re trying to optimize user experience that juggles multitasking, multiple apps open at once and on a small screen, you’re going to get people landing on similar kinds of designs.”
Its no surprise though, operating systems have been borrowing elements from each other from way back in the early days of Windows vs. Mac.
