Browser becomes first non-native browser made available in Apple’s Appstore.
Opera’s web browser is now available on Apple’s Appstore making it the first non-native browser made available in Apple’s Appstore. The twist? It’s only available for those who are aged 17 and above.
Though the age rating may be something to ponder over it seems there is a perfectly logical explanation for it. Apple rates its Apps by assessing the entire content available through the app which, of course, would include several site un-suitable for those below 17. That which apple deems must be rated high includes “frequent and intense mature, horror, and suggestive themes; plus strong sexual content, nudity, strong language, alcohol, tobacco, and drugs”
Opera VP of Desktop Products approached the rating with a rather humorous statement, going on to say:
“Seventeen is very young, and I am not sure if, at that age, people are ready to use such an application. It’s very fast, you know, and it has a lot of features.”
Fear not though, young Opera fans, for there is a workaround. Simply head over to the Opera site itself and download the app hassle free.
