Another year, another cable cut.
Experiencing slow speeds on your du Internet line? Don’t worry, they are not throttling it again, it’s just the yearly cable cut saying hello. du has confirmed to Gulfnews that the provider is experiencing disruption in its services across the region following a submarine cable cut on March 23.
“du would like to assure its customers that it has taken immediate action to ease the situation by re-routing its traffic over other available links,” the statement said.
“However, customers will continue to face bandwidth degradation and longer connection times. Performance is expected to go back to more normal levels within the coming few days, according to the cable operators.
“Although the incident is not under its control, du is working with the concerned parties to ensure a quick resolution of this issue.
“du apologises for any inconvenience caused and is committed to provide further updates and actions being taken to restore capacity performance to the normal levels.”
On an 8mbps Internet connection, colleague Taimoor Hafeez is reporting a speed drop to 400kbps from the usual 940kbps on regular downloads. However, it seems the problem has not affected Etisalat customers, with speeds staying pretty much normal on an 8mbps eLife connection at my home.
