BGR cites ‘trusted resources’ who claim the service will be on androids as early as this year.
The guys over at Boy Genius Report seem to have gotten their hands on yet another juicy rumour. This one it seems, stems from some ‘multiple trusted sources’ from within the RIM camp itself.
The rumours state that while RIM has not confirmed any pricing or release dates they’re quite seriously in the works to bring the immensely popular blackberry messenger (BBM) app to the leading smartphone Operating systems, iOS and Android. Rumours say the app may see users being charged a one time or even a recurring fee for the use on third party platforms.
While some may say that this would push away users who’s sole reason for owning a blackberry phone is for ‘BBM’ it is important to note that with apps like Whatsapp and Kik consumers are now spoilt for choice. The sources go on to say that Android and iOS users will have a stripped down version of BBM rather than the full version. This would mean presumably only basic text functionality instead of picture, video and location sharing.
As of now nothing is confirmed but it looks pretty certain that we’ll be seeing an Android BBM app this year while iOS users will have to wait longer due to the comparative difficulty in coding and getting the app up on the Appstore.
