Control your TV with mere hand gesture.

Kinect for Windows is certainly possible, but for that Microsoft will need to release its SDK tools to let the developers have a go at it. In the meanwhile, Asus has teamed up with PrimeSense, the same folks who shared their technology with Microsoft, has come out with their own solution to bring motion-sensing capabilities to PCs. The product is called WAVI Xtion or “way-vee action”, and while innovative in its own right, also has, possibly, the cheesiest name after Nintendo’s ‘Wii’, maybe even worse.

Anyway, the WAVI Xtion comprises of two components: a wireless media streaming device and the Xtion motion sensor. The media device can stream HD content from a PC to a TV wirelessly, while users can control the multimedia playback, along with games and applications using the motion sensing camera. Users will be able to stream high definition content over 5Ghz wireless band with a range of up to 25 meters.

Xtion will come with two bundled games: MayaFit Cardio Lite, a motion-sensing fitness training game ala YourShape, and BeatBooster, a multipler racing-adventure game where users maneuver jet aircraft with their body movements.

Speaking on cooperation with ASUS when developing WAVI Xtion motion-sensing technology, PrimeSense CEO Inon Beracha said:

“Our collaboration with ASUS in providing a 3D sensing solution for WAVI Xtion proves to the industry that natural interaction technology is the ideal fit for living rooms, and that intuitive, gesture-based control will be the go-to route for operating all devices. We believe that PrimeSensesolutions like the user interface used on ASUS’ WAVI Xtion represent the future of the way people interact with consumer electronics, and help break down barriersof use to allow people to sync with the electronic world around them.”

Asus will also opening an app store called @vibe online store that will deliver music, games and apps to use with the camera. An SDK will also be made available soon for interested developers.

There is no word on when WAVI Xtion will be released and for how much.
