Analyst believes it could create a whole new category.

Apple is going to make your TV smart soon, if analyst Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanley is to believed. Apparently, Apple is looking into developing a Smart TV solution and the Huberty believes that it may create a whole new ‘Smart TV’ category in the market. Leave it Apple to create categories, eh?

“Checks in Asia suggest Apple is working on a Smart TV prototype,” Huberty said in a note to investors on Friday.

The Smart TV will include “TV/Video content, gaming, DVR as well as other features like apps and FaceTime” and will be truly magical…okay, no she did not say that. Anyway, Huberty believes that Apple is set to earn $4 billion for every 1% of TV market share it grabs. That’s indeed a lot of stake for Apple to overlook. Will it be worth the development cost, well that’s for Apple to decide.

There are already attempts at smart TV solutions from manufacturers, namely Samsung, but none of them have nailed the concept to make it count. With a knack for user interfaces, simple and yet capable software and a well scaling hardware, Apple might be the one to get things rolling for the category. It’s all up for grabs for them.
