Component suppliers claims Apple is interested in expanding iPhone’s screen to compete in market; A5 processor in next iPhone.
New reports from component suppliers of Apple iPhone products are suggesting that the Cupertino company is looking to increase screen size of the iPhone to at least 4″ in order to compete against Android phones which generally sport a 4″+ screen.
“The component suppliers noted that the production lines for Apple’s next generation iPhone have begun testing, and Apple is interesting in expanding the screen size to 4-inches to support the tablet PC market as the vendor only has a 9.7-inch iPad in the market,” said a source to Taiwanese tech site DigiTimes.
The website also claims that the next iPhone will sport a ARM Cortex A9-based A5 processor, who’s manufacturing has been handed over Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
While the processor upgrade can be accounted as a natural progression, it is about time Apple move out of the 3.5″ screen mold especially when most Android phones like Samsung Galaxy S feature a 4-inch+ screens, and even a 5″ screen that is on the Dell Streak.
Apple should just rock out a 6″ iPhone and call the regular 3.5″ version as the rumored ‘iPhone-mini’. May save some dollars, no?
