LG claims the PS3 contains components which infringe LG’s patents.
With the many lawsuits flying around lately, it shouldn’t be all that surprising should a new one pop up. That is, of course, until you get a doozy like this: LG wants to stop the sales of PS3′s in the United States.
On one end you have Sony trying to subpoena websites and individuals including the infamous members of fail0verflow and other PS3 hackers and on the other you have LG claiming that the PS3 infringes on up to 4 patents which deal with the playback of Blu-Ray disks and as such has asked the United States International Trade Commission to ban all further imports of the device onto it’s soil until they can get more details on the situation. Other lawsuits by LG also include components of cameras and PCs.
Many claim that this is merely a ‘revenge suit’ over the fact that Sony complained to the International Trade Commission last year over some of LG’s phone patents.
A classic case of Corporate Tattletale-ery is what we have here.
