Last min spec changes and shortage of displays cuts production targets by half.
DigiTimes is citing sources inside the component suppliers who claim that iPad 2′s production targets for first-quarter have been cut down by at least 50%.
The production volume has been revised down from between 400,000 and 600,000 units to 300,000 and 400,000 units. The sources say the lower production targets are due to display panel shortages and last-min specification changes made by Apple ahead of production.
Earlier rumors suggested that the spec change might delay the launch of the iPad 2, but DigiTimes claims the awaited tablet is still on track for a second-quarter release.
