Eric Schmidt, in the Android address at MWC covered by the guys at phandroid stated that Android is now at the stage where it sees 350,000 activations a day. This figure equates to roughly 10 million a month and a whopping 127.75 million activations a year.

The figure is actually supposedly going to grow throughout the course of 2011 and as a result will overtake Symbian as the leading OS in the world. Android already beat out its competitors to become the leading smartphone OS in the last quarter of 2010.

These latest figures come on the back of heavy adoption by a number of OEM hardware manufacturers as well as mediocre innovation on the part of other heavyweights such as Microsoft and RIM.
